Melissa Gallup

Psychotherapist, LCSW

Melissa has been working in the human services field since 2008. She has been practicing online psychotherapy since May of 2022 and finds it to be a wonderful way to incorporate a healthy work/life balance for herself and her clients. Melissa's most common therapy approaches include the use of CBT, DBT, ACT and MBSR.

Melissa holds a Master's Degree in Social Work from Columbia University of NYC, where she became certified in Evidenced Based Practices. These practices allow clients to guide their healing process while partnering with their clinician to make progress in areas they choose. Most sessions will include a weekly task to work towards achieving a long term goal with an ongoing assessment of symptoms to be sure they are decreasing.

Melissa has a background working in many settings including residential facilities for teens, community outreach, acute psychiatric care, suicide prevention, crisis intervention, outpatient psychotherapy and hospitals. These roles have allowed Melissa to live and learn in diverse communities and work with many populations.

Melissa believes that the therapeutic alliance is the most important part of the psychotherapy process. She uses a compassionate but honest and direct approach in communicating. She is authentic in her many roles of life. She believes it's important to 'practice what you preach' and gives guidance in areas she has personal and professional experience. Melissa works with clients experiencing challenges in relationships, career changes, relocation, communications, parenting, physical health, addictions, family trauma, and grief. She is well versed in the self-help community and feels it's best for everyone to obtain and utilize support in every way possible. Therapy is a great tool to start this supportive process and she looks forward to assisting her clients in growing and evolving into the person they desire to be.
